I agree totally that farmers are the hardiest workers non ending.
I was raised on a farm in Wv and as a child we would shuck corn from the cob every morning before going to school to feed the chickens and we had alot. Also, had to feed the pigs and hogs. Evenings we did the same thing over and over. bedtime couldn't come quick enough. But, we were healthy kids. Summers were worse as at the crack of dawn we were in the cornfields until 12:00 noon. Then gardens in the evenings. When on the farm you don't have to find something to do believe me.

Extremely good article, definitely helpful stuff. Never considered I'd find the information I would like right here. I've been hunting all over the web for some time now and had been starting to get irritated. Thankfully, I stumbled onto your blog and received precisely what I was looking for.

Hi there, nice site with good info. I really like coming back here often. There's only one thing that annoys me and that is the misfunctioning of comment posting. I usually get to 500 error page, and have to do the post twice.

Dairy farmers are seriously overworked - and here in the UK also get paid squat for their produce. I am not familiar with the dairy farming industry in America however our farming trade in England is diminishing due to corporate giants (A.K.A Tesco Plc).

We are continuously sourcing our produce from abroad and find it disgusting.

The UK is fast becoming a tertiary land where no manufacturing or farming businesses will exist.

I envy dairy farmers for their passion and commitment.

Hello--
I appreciate your thoughts on the USDA. Food policy has become an issue for a wider segment of the population. I myself became interested through CSA membership. The influence of giant producers, gee-whiz technology, and finger-in-the-dike programs is great, but so are their failures. There are initiatives the USDA could undertake: programs in the cities to recruit and train new farmers, taxes on land transfers that are waived for small agricultural producers, and coupons for organic foods issued to low-income people (some farmers market initiatives already do this for food stamp recipients).
