Hello--
I appreciate your thoughts on the USDA. Food policy has become an issue for a wider segment of the population. I myself became interested through CSA membership. The influence of giant producers, gee-whiz technology, and finger-in-the-dike programs is great, but so are their failures. There are initiatives the USDA could undertake: programs in the cities to recruit and train new farmers, taxes on land transfers that are waived for small agricultural producers, and coupons for organic foods issued to low-income people (some farmers market initiatives already do this for food stamp recipients).
